A356 Squeeze-Cast Housing Completes Project Validation and Officially Enters Mass Production

CEX Casting has achieved a significant milestone in an A356 aluminum alloy squeeze-cast housing project.

Following mold development, trial runs, two rounds of sample validation, and final customer approval, the product has officially entered mass production.

This housing component is designed for demanding operating conditions and must meet extremely high standards for mechanical strength and leak-tight sealing performance.

Previously, the project relied on CNC machining from solid aluminum blocks—although this method met the required performance standards, it resulted in high material consumption, lengthy processing times, and high overall costs.

Traditional high-pressure die casting, meanwhile, can result in internal porosity, creating a risk of leakage and making it difficult to meet the sealing requirements.

Switching from CNC Machining to Squeeze Casting

Faced with the dual challenge of achieving both high strength and reliable sealing performance, the CEX Casting engineering team conducted a thorough evaluation.

After confirming that all performance requirements could be met, the team recommended a squeeze casting solution based on CEX Casting’s patented technology.

Our squeeze casting process uses vertical injection from the bottom, which significantly shortens the filling time and reduces heat loss from the molten aluminum.

Combined with high-pressure holding during solidification, this process promotes a denser internal microstructure for the castings, thereby simultaneously meeting the strict requirements for both mechanical strength and leak-tightness while substantially reducing material consumption and machining costs.

CEX Casting Squeeze Casting Process

After the client adopted the squeeze casting solution, the project began with mold development.

The CEX Casting engineering team continuously optimized production parameters.

The samples underwent mechanical property testing and X-ray internal quality inspection.

The test results met the specified performance requirements, and the samples successfully passed the customer’s acceptance inspection, allowing the product to enter mass production.

This project demonstrates the practical value of squeeze casting as an alternative to CNC machining from solid aluminum blocks.

The approach reduced material consumption, shortened production time, and lowered overall costs without compromising product performance.

CEX Casting will continue to provide overseas customers with cost-effective aluminum alloy structural component solutions through squeeze casting.
